Halloween isn't just for the kids!
6 Bright Ideas to Have Some Fun and Boost Staff Morale this Halloween

  1. Hold a Costume Contest. Trick or treat
Encourage everyone to dress up for Halloween. Reward employees with a certificate, ribbon or gift card for the most creative, scariest, silliest or cutest costume. Have employees vote in the morning and announce the winners in the afternoon. Post results on your website or in your monthly newsletter if you have one.

  2. The Haunted Office.Trick or treat
Don't feel like dressing up? Hold a Halloween decorating contest instead. If you have many different departments, have each department decorate their space. Assign themes or let your employees use their own creative genius, and issue team leaders a pre-paid credit card of $50-$100 to use for purchasing decorations. Award prizes for the most creative space. Better yet, have your employees vote for the best décor. If you have a smaller office, have each person decorate their cubicles or workspace or have everyone help decorate common areas together.

  3. Ghoulish Goulash. Hold a pot-luck lunch. Encourage employees to bring in one of their favorite dishes from home. Have a sign up sheet for all those that wish to attend. Spend the afternoon on Halloween at a laid back lunch with colleagues.

  4. Trick-or-Treat.Trick or treat
One great way to gain buy-in and commitment from your employees is to involve their families. Allow your employees to bring their kids in to the office, in costume. The kids can go from cubical to cubical or office to office and "trick-or-treat" and collect candy or small prizes. Want to go the extra mile? Organize a small committee to plan games and activities for the kids (for example, bobbing for apples or carving pumpkins).

  5. Batty Bakers. Trick or treat
Calling all Betty Crocker's and foodies out there! Organize a baking contest in your office. Select a baking committee and a panel of judges. Hold the contest during lunch. Have your bakers create a Halloween themed dessert. Have your judges award the best tasting and most creative Halloween dessert.

  6. Thrillers. Make the week of Halloween, Movie Week. Rent classic Halloween thrillers and play them during the lunch hour. Provide popcorn and refreshments. Your staff will appreciate the time to unwind and relax.
